Bendigo win Calder Challenge against Gisborne

Gisborne won the toss and decided to bat first on a placid QEO second day wicket.
Although the opening bowlers for Bendigo bowled fairly well, the Gisborne opening batsmen got off to a fairly brisk start,compiling 49 runs in just 11 overs. before they lost their first wicket.
By the time Gisborne had lost their second wicket with the score on 75, twenty one overs had been bowled, thanks to some tight bowling by the bendigo bowlers in particular Braden Tuohey. At the second drinks break (34
overs), Gisborne's score was 5 for 108.
Some fine leg spin bowling by Dale Bish,who finished with 3 for 21 off his ten overs, helped bendigo dismiss Gisborne in the 50th over for 169 runs.
Braden Tuohey chipped in with 2 for 13 off 8 overs which included 4 maidens.Elias Bowe and Alex Code both finished with two wickets apiece.

The team arrived at Mt. Eliza to be informed that would be playing on carpet. Players discussed their options but decided to play and were batting first. A combination of good pace bowling and cavalier batting soon had Bendigo in trouble at 5/19. Andrew Chalkley joined Cory Jacobs and they set about resurrecting the Bendigo innings with good running between wickets and smart hitting, before Jacobs was out stumped. Liam Smith then joined Chalkley and they continued to look for runs and both struck the ball cleanly. When both fell within 7 runs of each other the score stood at 8/74, but then skipper Tyrone Downie and James Seymour gave Bendigo a chance with a terrific 50 run partnership. Downie played with real dash and Seymour showed tremendous poise to work the ball and give Downie plenty of the strike.
